The Climate Office was opened in March 2009, at Szent István University (SZIE) in collaboration of the British Council Climate Advocates, and the University, supported by the Climate Council of the SZIE. This is the pilot office of the Climate Office Network in Hungary.
What does Climate Office stand for?
- It is focused and built on Universities and Colleges to disseminate information about climate change.
- Encourages students to build best practise models related to low-carbon solutions from their initial project ideas.
- Climate Office aims to offer solutions for students to lower their personal carbon footprint.
- It helps students by the scientific advise of the SZIE Climate Council to decide about up-to-date topics for their final thesis, and scientific student work in engineering or other sciences.
- It is a net carbon neutral office, that offsets its emissions by the projects it develops on-site, mainly on campuses.
The objective is to establish the network of these offices, where different disciplines offer different solutions for their own areas, therefore providing a colourful paletta of solutions for the benefit of the whole network. Important is furthermore to build on the experience of peer-reviewed, applied sciences and the experience of the private sector as to act as a local think-tank. Phrases that will be more familiar with students in the Climate Office are sustainable development, climate-friendly lifestyle, products and services, carbon-conscious and low-carbon.
Every Student involved in the work of the Offive receives a project-task, chosen by himself mainly, and carries out a scientific, or thematically chosen work in the field of climate change with external traineeships, and practical solutions, therefore helps the everyday duties of the office to be carried out too, and raise awareness among fellow students. The suitable period for such an internship is at least 3 month. The outcome of the students' work is an essay or short study evaluated by the Climate Council of the SZIE, and placed to be available for the students on our webpage.
